See All ReviewsTough but worth getting here! NY AT here I come!! Thanks NJ for such a wonderful hiking experience 🥰
Look, the views are gorgeous, however someone needs to teach New York how to maintain trails because Lord almighty this section is awful. In a single 5 miles stretch I got lost 3 different times. The trial is overgrown, the blazes are obscured, and there are dead end side trails leading every whichway. I've walked the entire Appalachian Trail from Harpers Ferry to Katahdin and this is easily the worst maintained section I have experienced.
From the Surprise Lake Loop trailhead/parking lot it took about 40 minutes to hike up to the state border via blue. Pretty cool! Lots of fallen trees, some mud. I completed the loop for fun clocking 4 miles in just over 2 hours.
